Telegram’s July 14, 2026 update adds Communities that bundle groups, channels and bots, a 32,768-character Rich Text Editor for Premium users, private ephemeral bot replies in groups, and private search across 350 million GIFs. The practical takeaway: Communities and cleaner bot replies can simplify large audiences, while the advanced editor is currently a paid feature.

What are Telegram Communities?
A Telegram Community is a container for several related groups, channels and bots. Members can see the other visible chats in that community and join them directly instead of hunting for separate links.
This is useful when one audience needs different spaces. A training business could link an announcement channel, student discussion group, support bot and alumni group. A brand could connect a news channel, customer community, regional groups and an order-status bot.
Telegram says chats can be configured as:
- Visible: available to all community members.
- Hidden: visible only to community admins and people who already belong to that chat.
A community can appear as separate chats or as one expandable item in the chat list. Communities are collaborative by default, so members may add chats. Admins should review that permission early; if adding chats is restricted, member additions appear as suggestions instead.
Telegram Community setup checklist
Use this checklist when the Communities option appears in your updated Telegram app. Telegram’s announcement explains the controls but does not publish a universal tap-by-tap path for every platform, so menu wording may differ on Android, iPhone and Desktop.
- Update Telegram from the official app store or Telegram download page.
- Map the structure first: decide which channel is for announcements, which group is for discussion, and which bots provide services.
- Link only related chats. A focused community is easier to understand than a folder containing every chat you manage.
- Choose visibility per chat. Keep public resources visible; reserve hidden status for admin, staff or restricted-member spaces.
- Restrict member-added chats if needed. Businesses and moderated communities should usually review additions rather than allowing instant linking.
- Test as a normal member. Confirm that visible and hidden chats behave as intended and that join flows are clear.
- Write a short welcome message explaining what each linked chat is for.
- Audit permissions monthly. Remove outdated bots and chats, and check who can alter the community.
What the new Rich Text Editor supports
The visual editor supports headings, tables, lists, quotes and code blocks. Photos and videos can appear inside a message rather than only as a separate attachment. Telegram allows up to 32,768 characters in one rich message.
The editor also includes Cocoon-powered AI writing tools. Telegram describes these tools as privacy-preserving, but users should still avoid placing passwords, private customer records, financial information or confidential business data into any AI-assisted workflow.
Availability limitation: Telegram states that the Rich Text Editor is currently exclusive to Telegram Premium. Communities, ephemeral bot replies and GIF improvements were presented separately; do not assume every feature requires Premium.
Copy-ready structure for a rich Telegram post
When the editor is available on your account, this structure makes a long message easy to scan:
[Clear headline]
Quick answer: State the result, change or deadline in one sentence.
What changed
- Change one
- Change two
- Change three
What you need to do
- First action
- Second action
- Verification step

Put the answer first. Tables are useful for plan comparisons or schedules, while code blocks are useful for commands and configuration examples. Avoid turning every sentence into a heading.
How ephemeral bot messages work
Bots in groups can now send a message visible only to one specific person. Telegram gives examples including greetings, private AI summaries, errors, confirmations and button menus. A bot can send these messages at any time or after a supported command; marked commands display a special icon in the bot menu.
This can reduce noise because a setup confirmation or error no longer needs to appear for the whole group. It is also useful for personalized menus and summaries. However, “visible only to you in the group” should not be treated as permission to send secrets to an unknown bot. Check who operates the bot and what data it stores.
Developers should use Telegram’s official ephemeral-messages documentation rather than relying on an unofficial implementation example.
What changed in Telegram GIF search?
Telegram says its GIF panel now searches more than 350 million GIFs in 36 languages. The search uses offline indexing of widely shared public GIFs with open-source AI models. Telegram says queries remain private and do not rely on third-party GIF search providers.
Before you reorganize a large Telegram audience
- Export or record your current group and channel links.
- Document admin ownership and recovery access.
- Review bot permissions before linking bots into a wider community.
- Do not expose a private staff chat by marking it visible.
- Test with a non-admin account before announcing the change.
- Publish one clear navigation guide and pin it where members can find it.
Frequently asked questions
Are Telegram Communities the same as groups?
No. A Community links multiple groups, channels and bots around one topic. A group remains an individual conversation space inside or outside that community.
Is the Telegram Rich Text Editor free?
Not currently. Telegram’s July 14 announcement says the Rich Text Editor is available only to Telegram Premium users.
How long can a rich Telegram message be?
Telegram says the new editor supports messages up to 32,768 characters.
Can everyone see an ephemeral bot reply?
No. Telegram says these group messages are visible only to the bot and the specific person receiving or requesting the reply.
Why can’t I see Telegram Communities yet?
First update the official Telegram app. Feature availability and menu placement can vary by app platform and rollout timing. Telegram’s announcement does not provide a single universal setup path for every device.
